New EFI Fiery Print Servers Bring Performance, Integration and Color to New Canon Digital Presses

9 Sep, 2015

NEW YORK -- September 9, 2015 -- EFI™ launched today a pair of Fiery® digital front ends (DFEs) for the new, high-speed Canon® imagePRESS® C10000VP and C8000VP digital color production presses, offering unique productivity and quality advantages of Fiery FS200 Pro technology – an advanced DFE platform available for graphic arts production printing applications.

The Canon imagePRESS Servers B5000 and B4000 maximize the imagePRESS C10000VP Series’ ability to efficiently produce superb-quality documents. The new DFEs are powered by proprietary EFI application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) with RIPChip™ technology enabling them to provide outstanding performance. As a result, users can grow their businesses with more-profitable, timely, top-quality work, including higher-value, fully personalized jobs printed on the press’s broad range of compatible substrates.

Building on a set of unique, CIP4-certified EFI Fiery JDF capabilities, users can seamlessly connect the servers with other JDF-based devices as well as establish fully automated, bi-directional communication and integration with EFI’s market-leading MIS/ERP and Web-to-print products. Users can also harness the power of Fiery API to rapidly develop custom apps and tools such as requesting job log data, controlling job actions, retrieving print statuses and much more for their unique business needs.

“Enhancing productivity and streamlining workflows are key requirements in managing a successful printing operation,” said Junichi Yoshitake, senior vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “The EFI Fiery FS200 Pro platform and the Canon imagePRESS C10000VP technology is a powerful solution for our customers to help manage a high-performance business with opportunity for increased profitability.”

Parallel RIPs for hyper-fast processing

The new imagePRESS Server B5000 unveiled today is the first imagePRESS server to support EFI Fiery HyperRIP, an advanced RIP technology that is receiving a 2015 Must See ’Ems Award at the Graph Expo 2015 tradeshow. Fiery HyperRIP uses four parallel processors to boost RIPing performance by processing a single job or multiple jobs up to 55 percent faster compared to RIPing time without HyperRIP. Plus, a new Rush RIP mode opens up a fifth RIP to process rush jobs when all four main parallel processors are busy.

The imagePRESS Server B5000 also features advanced prepress and make-ready tools from the Fiery Graphic Arts Package, Premium Edition, including automated color adjustment between similar jobs using custom color curves and a new WYSIWYG interface to edit control bars, offering users more control over placement and content.

New, integrated display for Fiery workflow and press controls

Both the imagePRESS Server B5000 and B4000 feature a new “unity display” external monitor that gives users the ability to switch between EFI Fiery Command WorkStation® workflow screens and the imagePRESS control panel. Operators gain convenient access to control the job queue and can easily select media, review job previews as well as make print engine quality adjustments.

Operators can also better plan and prioritize jobs by organizing and grouping jobs with similar characteristics in Command WorkStation’s job management interface. Plus, EFI’s Fiery Impose and Compose software are available for advanced document imposition, tab insertion, pagination, and assembly. Print service providers can also increase efficiency with the automation benefits of the browser-based Fiery JobFlow™ Base software.

“EFI designed the Fiery FS200 Pro platform to handle our partners’ fastest, high-image quality, color-intensive print engines, and we are very excited to have our award-winning technology drive these new flagship production devices in the Canon imagePRESS line,” said Toby Weiss, senior vice president and general manager, EFI Fiery. “Digital print providers benefit greatly from a longstanding EFI and Canon partnership that is delivering a world-class Fiery DFE and Canon imagePRESS integrated offering.”

Canon U.S.A. will publicly present the new servers for the first time this week at Canon Expo 2015, Sept. 10-11 at the Javits Convention Center in New York.

Non-GAAP financial measures have limitations in that they do not reflect certain items that may have a material impact upon our reported financial results. We expect to continue to incur expenses of a nature similar to the non-GAAP adjustments described above, and exclusion of these items from our non-GAAP net income and non-GAAP earnings per diluted share should not be construed as an inference that these costs are unusual, infrequent, or non-recurring.

On September 10th through 12th Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division held its annual Print and Imaging National summit for Samsung dealers at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, Texas. The conference was designed to educate attendees on Samsung’s strategy and vision for the future, introduce new lineups of products and technologies, and enlighten dealers on new marketing implementation/execution plans for pushing these new products. Approximately 300 people attended the event, including dealers, ISV partners, and analysts.
Attendees heard from several Samsung high executives during the opening welcome general session including President of Samsung Electronics America, Tim Baxter, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, Tod Pike, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Printing Solutions, Matthew Smith (who joined the Samsung team in May 2014), and Senior Program Manager, Kasey Kim. Tim Baxter emphasized that Samsung is “relentlessly focused on bringing innovation to market.” Samsung has laid out audacious goals for its EBD printer business, and announced they are focusing on B2B growth, and B2B vertical orientation. They launched a new “Smartify” marketing campaign to achieve these goals.
The most exciting news of the event was the announcement of a future product- the MX7, a new family of A3 MFPs with speeds of up to 60 ppm, scan speeds at over 100 ipm, and larger duty cycles due to new drums that offer twice the rated print volume. The UI is most impressive, basically serving as a tablet hooked into the hardware. This device will be available sometime in 2015. With this announcement along with the recent release of several new MFPs to their portfolio, Samsung is certainly gaining more footage in the A3 area.
New Future Product- MultiXpress X7 Series with finisher
Along with the announcement of new hardware, Samsung revealed their vertical market strategies focusing on six major categories: transportation, education, retail, hospitality, finance, and healthcare, and partner solutions they are utilizing to target each. These details, along with more information regarding Samsung’s new Smartify campaign, dealer support, and company strategy/goals can be found in InfoTrends’ recently published analysis Samsung’s Printing Solutions National Dealer Summit 2014: Think Big.

New EFI and Sharp Alliance Brings Fiery Digital Front End to Market for Sharp Pro Series

FOSTER CITY, Calif., Sept. 6, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – EFI™ (Nasdaq:EFII), a world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today announced that it has established an agreement with Osaka, Japan-based Sharp Corp. to develop versatile, integrated Fiery digital front ends (DFEs) for high-quality production printing.
As a result of this new agreement, EFI will provide its Fiery® DFE with Sharp® Pro Series Digital Color Document Systems. These Fiery Driven™ production systems will make their worldwide debut September 8-12 in Chicago at North America’s largest printing trade show, Print 13, in the EFI booth, #2602.
The Sharp® MX-6500N and MX-7500N Pro Series products are the first in the industry to offer full control of EFI’s Fiery Command WorkStation® job management interface right from the print engine operation panel. Sharp’s unique, 15.4-inch, high-resolution touch screen display serves as the primary operation panel for the Pro Series, giving operators convenient access to the Command WorkStation interface.

“This integration combines Sharp’s unique feature set with EFI’s high-performance Fiery technology for a complete solution to fulfill the demands of today’s print professionals,” said Mike Marusic, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Solutions Group, Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America.
“We are excited about the alliance with Sharp in the development of innovative new products in the production space,” said John Henze, vice president, Fiery marketing, EFI. “We have worked closely with Sharp to create the ultimate integrated printing platform for on-demand print environments that need precision job management.”

Unmatched versatility with Fiery’s powerful, flexible foundation

Sharp’s flagship Pro Series consists of two models, the MX-6500N and the MX-7500N, offering the Fiery Server MX-PE10 running the latest Fiery FS100 Pro system software. Designed for busy in-plant and on-demand production environments, these new models’ Fiery servers provide a powerful and flexible platform for managing environments with distributed operations, demanding turnaround times and different operator skill levels. The printers – which offer edge-to-edge printing for professional, full-bleed work and an exclusive, triple air-feed paper handling option supporting a wide range of media – help businesses produce more jobs in-house and improve profitability.

This new EFI/Sharp integration lets operators easily manage and prepare jobs at the press and virtually eliminates the need for multiple workstations for job management. The operation panel integrates a tactile keyboard with a touchpad-pointing device for PC-like operation.

The display itself has the look and feel of a large tablet with flick, tap and swipe operation. With this touch-screen operation, users can drag and drop print jobs, select print attributes and perform other actions. The tactile keyboard and touchpad offer more precise control over advanced workflow tools such as Fiery Image Enhance Visual Editor, Fiery Impose or EFI’s new Fiery JobMaster PDF-based job-preparation software.

Fiery Ticker, accessed directly from the display, gives operators control to set alerts for other operators for unattended printing and allows them to see warnings about the engine, including alerts to load media, when away from the engine.

The Fiery Server MX-PE10 includes Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) support for PDF preferred printing environments. Plus, the DFE supports industry color, variable-data print and JDF standards and seamlessly integrates with EFI web-to-print and MIS solutions, third-party prepress solutions and other existing environments.

The new Sharp Pro Series MX-6500N and MX-7500N Digital Color Document Systems will be available from Sharp in September 2013.
